Baracking the Vote!
Lashing at Manhattan Pier
Anyhow, we actually did have fun in Manhattan. Lash was very well behaved at breakfast and kept calling herself the "baby's baby." I wondered if that was sort of like a "guy's guy" a baby who is seen as super cool by other babies? Lash loved the playing in the walk-in fountain near the restaurant and laughed her way down the pier. There wasn't really anyone special there except, of course, for Molly who we think is the most special person of all!

Molly Finds Jesus! (At her Baptism of course!)
The ceremony was held at Wayfarer's Chapel in Palos Verdes and was truly wonderful. It was a beautiful day and Molly looked stunning (as you can see). She happened to find a mirror in the vestibule that reflected her THREE ways - imagine her excitement.
Thank you family and friends for attending. We are, honestly, truly blessed.
Lash, for her part, did well. Although she squawked and chattered through most of the Rev's speech (not to mention trying to pull the leaves off the large plant upper right), she came through in the clutch. When Rev. Brown moved in for the anointment, Molly looked him right in the eyes and gave him a big smile. Then, when he pulled his hand away, she gave him a high five and laughed! Amen to that little sister!
The Many Faces of the Great and Powerful Mol!
On this particular day, Ms. Lash had TWO baths as this situation quickly deteriorated into ravs in the hair, eyelashes, ears, Dad's hair, Mom's nose, etc. etc. Molly, of course, had a wonderful time smiling and chuckling and eating and smearing her way right through this tasty meal.
Molly's First Birthday (at long last...)
We especially appreciate GB who helped with many of the planning details and set up as well as Nana and Jim who pulled a Kerouac-esque road trip from Seattle to Los Angeles to be present.
As for the baby? She dug the food, friends, and gifts - particularly the duck driver that little Lief Kious brought for her. Towards the end of the afternoon, she had a little breakdown - but hey, it was her party and she could cry if she wanted to (especially if her Dad didn't strap her in the stroller and she fell out... Oops).

She Walks! She Talks! She Does the Rumba! (not really)
Greetings Molly faithful and sorry for the considerable delay in posting time. Life seems to have a way of outrunning my blogging ambition... As you might well imagine, much has transpired since we last spoke including a birthday and Molly's full transition from a quadruped to a biped in no time flat. Seems like just yesterday we were pleading with her to rollover, now the little sucker is on the move and getting into all sorts of mischief! Not surprisingly, Lash continues to become more and more fun for her parents... She talks, she giggles, and she bounces around the house! The scary thing is she is becoming a little girl right before our very eyes. Dad for one is not sure he is ready for his baby to grow up just yet...
Tune in next time for: The Birthday Party! (and thank you to all of you that made it a huge success! It was so wonderful to see you all!).

Molly Visits the Emerald City!
A few weeks back (as you may have noticed the blog is not so current), all the MacDonalds went north to Seattle to visit family - particularly newest addition Hank William, Aunt Katie and Uncle Ben's new nino born just last month. We had uncharacteristically good weather (even a little on the hot side!) which allowed us to visit the amazing new lake house that Grandpa Jim is building and Green Lake where these picture were taken. For those of you who know Green Lake, no we did not allow Molly to wade in the infamous "Pee Pool". After walking by and observing the one hundred plus kids crowded into its shallow confines and distinctly smelling urine from a distance of 30 feet, we thought Lash would be better off on the grass. Regardless, we had a great time and Molly had many wonderful conversation with the local ducks.

Hi All! Summer is in full swing here is SoCal and little Molly is becoming quite the water bug! Splashing seems to be her favorite new skill which, as you can see, she does quite enthusiastically. In the second video, you find Lash at the Prehn country estate where she shared a tub with friends Leif and Lilah.
Now for the bad news, Molly finished fifth at the Olympic swim trials in the 500M freestyle and so she will not be traveling to Bejing this summer :(. Mols, of course, handled the lose with her usual poise by looking the other competitors square in the eyes, firmly shaking their hands, and saying "Oyo-yoi-oyo." Her coach says she'll have a much better shot in 2012 when she is four.

Delinquent Dad Finally Updates Blog!
Hi friends and family - long time no blog. Seems like there's not much time these days - sound familiar to other parents :). Last time Molly was just starting to crawl, well a month later she has pretty much mastered that and is definitely into "cruising" now (standing and moving herself from table to chair to couch, etc.). I'm pretty confident that her first real steps will come any day now, but of course that probably means she won't walk until she is two. Regardless, we are enjoying every minute of Molly's young life - although I could probably pass on the diaper changes now that she has real poop :(. In other news, Melissa has her final oral defense this week (Thursday!) which means she is almost Melissa Ph.D! What a cool Mama Molly has. Dad is on the job hunt for administration jobs - nothing like climbing the education ladder! Secretly, both Mom and Dad are routinely playing the lottery so they can stay home with the baby they can't get enough of. Until next week...

It's Not the Country Estate But...
The MacDonalds went to visit the Kious family at their "Brentwood House" (N. of Wilshire for those of you in the know) and found it quite charming albeit lacking some of the pastoral charm of the aforementioned Prehn country Estate :). Bill and Melissa were thrilled to see friends and parents extraordinaire Brent and Jen and Lash got a chance to reconnect with baby Leif (also a Big Baby!) who was kind enough to share some of his incredible exercise equipment with her. Mols had the most fun with Leif's bouncer which she complimented with many squeals and spasmodic movements. Later, adults and babies engaged in genteel conversation while strolling around the Brentwood Golf and Country Club (around as in outside the fence on the dirt path circling the club around). Overall, the visit was a smashing success for all participants. Molly even slept all the way home in Los Angeles Saturday traffic (just as bad as weekday rush hour :) We love L.A.! We love it!). All and all, not a bad Saturday for Lash and Co.

Keeping Up with the Lash!
Lo siento avid readers (if you exist) pero there wasn't a blog update last week... with summer creeping into SoCal it's getting harder and harder to spend hours inside on la computadora. So how is the little star of the show? Terrific of course! As you can observe, Lash's legs are STRONG and she loves standing (holding onto Dad, furniture, chairs, etc.). She is NOT walking or crawling yet... but she is close! The future stuntgirl has taken to getting up on her elbows and knees and launching herself forward like a mini torpedo. Our future sumo champion also enjoys "throwing her weight around" (literally) by leaning toward something she wants and sprawling toward it in a pile of mini arms and legs. From here, the future Yogi Master promptly vaults into the downward facing dog position and assaults her objective like a mini Patton.
Molly's newest sounds are "Ba" and "Pa" which she has been quietly practicing all week and now is starting to turn up the volume. Mols also LOVES to laugh, chuckle, and outright heehaw (especially if you tickle her sides or sing "Molly MacDonald has a farm...").
Overall, we are pleased with her current performance :) The truth is both Melissa and I love her more than we can even express and still we find ways to love her more with each passing day.
Meet the Nixons...Meet the Ays!
Yes, last weekend was a meet and greet for Mols who finally got to say hello to Kaelyn Nixon her newest BFF (that's "best friend forever" to those not fluent in Textese). Molly, aka "The Big Baby" (weighing in at a hefty 20 lbs!), was pleased to make Kaelyn's acquaintance and said so with a series of "Ba-Ga-Ba-Da's" followed by a earsplitting squeal (this is a good sign!). In the attached photo, observe Lash keeping her sometimes spastic arm movements in check as she firmly shakes hands with Kaelyn and mama Althea. Yvonne and Erdem Ay also joined the babies for lunch at Casa de MacDonald. The midday meal was followed by hours of Baby TV where the guests tracked and discussed every movement of these adorable little baby geniuses!Sunday, February 24, 2008

I Bet Suri Doesn't Even Have This!
Hi all, Lash here. Check out my new toy chest designed, crafted, and hand-delivered by Nana and Jim. Can you say awesome? I couldn't put a finger on it but I knew my room was missing something. When they carted this sucker in, I knew that my prayers had been answered. I'm willing to bet not even celebrity babies have their own monogrammed toy chest! That's right baby Suri, you may be the genetic offspring of Ron L. Hubbard but where's your personalized chiffonier? And you can keep your gigantic, creepy moon Max Aguilera, when it comes to class, I've got you in spades! Anyhow, I'd just like to say THANKS to Nana and Jim and let them know that this chest and I shall never be parted (at least until I'm much, much older :). Nana's Visit! (Among Other Things...)
Last weekend Nana and Jim drove down from Washington (via Arizona) to visit our little family. As you can see, Nana and baby Mols hit it off and got on like old friends. Nana and Jim were lucky enough to experience Molly's delightful squealing at many Redondo Beach brunch locals. But in the end, they have Lash a BB rating (Best Baby). We think so too! In other Molly news:
- Lash is sitting up! For the past couple of weeks Molly has been sitting like a champion. Her world view, she relates, is much improved.
- Lash is creeping (a little). For the baby novice, creeping is not when she climbs out of her crib and scares us when we get up to go to the bathroom. Rather, it is when she uses her back legs to push herself around like an inchworm.
- Lash is eating lots of stuff! Yes the baby has now sampled peas, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, bananas, apples, and pears. She likes most of it (except peas - see prior video).
- Lash says "Da-da-da-da-da" over and over again. I am so pleased! Except that she says it to Mom too... and the cats... and her teething ring...

Super Duper Tuesday!
Mama, Dad, and Lash were at the polls Tuesday to cast their votes for Democratic hopeful Barack Obama. Mols, hidden discretely beneath Dad's pea coat, resisted pressure from the notorious GB (Grandma Baltau) to vote for Hillary and successfully punched her vote for hope and change. (The chad, for those who are wondering, did not hang but fell clear and free). At the debriefing, between mouthfuls of sweet potatoes, Lash rationalized that while a vote for hope and change may seem hollow and trite on the surface, it was in fact based upon the precept that both optimism and revolution are quintessential values of the democratic archetype. Furthermore, that the amalgamation "hopechange" is an anagram for "Peach Hen Go" which just so happens to be a line from one of Molly's favorite bedtime stories...

More Molly at Six Months (continued...)
Dad maneuvered to get Mols close to her cake - but not too close! Just after this particular picture was taken, Molly succeeded in sticking her mitts into the cake when Dad was talking to GB (Grandma Baltau). Disaster was narrowly averted when Mom's quick hands stopped the wonder baby from placing the frosting in her mouth. Can you imagine what terrible fate would have befallen our tiny heroine? Perhaps a tiny smile at her first taste of sugar... (Mom is not finding this amusing). Molly was also fascinated with the candle (note that it is extinguished in this and later photos). She seemed to think that grabbing the flame would make all her birthday wishes come true... That being said, if her wish is to have lit candles on this or future cakes - she will be very disappointed.
Molly Lash is Six Months Old!
Wow! It feels like Molly arrived just yesterday and here we already are at the half year mark! It is truly unbelievable how quickly the time has passed. It seems like just yesterday we brought the mini Lash home and now here we are with a ittle person who sits up on her own, has likes (the plastic dragonfly), dislikes (peas and sweet potatoes), and lots of interesting things to say (dada, mama, and of course AHH-GOO!). Not to mention that today, when we woke her up to celebrate her important chronological milestone, there was tiny TOOTH sticking out of her little, pink gums! Truly, will the wonders never cease?Molly took the tooth in stride (after we dosed her up with Children's Tylenol she was feeling no pain) and was fully able to enjoy her half birthday festivities. Dad, in a fit of Martha Stewartness, baked her a little cake which looked kind of cute but tasted like sawdust. Lucky for Molly, she was not allowed to eat any...

Visualize Whirled Peas
(the following was translated verbatim by Les Babble - professional baby whisperer - at the home of Molly Lash MacDonald, January 27, 2008 following her first experience with pureed peas)
"Alright Les, take this down. And don't go changing it to protect your gratuity - I'll know and then you'll never work in this town again. For the record: I do NOT like peas. I abhor them. They are, for want of a better word, revolting. They are an affront to my senses. Their taste, like soured seaweed from a backstreet sushi bar; their odor, like mashed millipedes on a Peruvian patio; their texture, like the sludge trapped between an elephant's toes! And tell my Dad that he's not fooling anyone by mixing those grotesque peas in with my rice cereal. I wasn't born yesterday. Next time he tries that... he'll be wearing peas to work!"
Splish! Splash! I'm Taking a Bath!
As you can well see, Molly has really learned to sit up in the last week and has used her new found vertical mastery to splash up all kinds of trouble in the wonder tub. Mom and Dad, naturally, are over the stars at the newest trick, but are having a hard time staying dry with the new splish and splash Lash in the house. There has even been talk of a move to... the real tub! Can Molly transition? Does she really need a rubber ducky? Turn it next week for more exciting updates!

Project Runway
Baby Molly recently made her first trip to Sears to have her photo "professionally taken". Some of the pictures are better than others and some, well some couldn't even be posted on this blog (think giant smiling heads floating in a misty semi-darkness). I was under the impression that these kinds of photos went the way of the 8-track. I guess it goes to show that when it comes to babies, cheesiness is timeless. Next, time we hope to go with the giant alphabetical blocks...
There were, however, a few shots that made the photo shoot worthwhile. Granted, Molly crawling through a faux lacy curtain still drips with cheddar, but it is pretty damn cute. Moreover, I'd never have the gall to set something like this up in my own house (can you imagine what I would say if caught in the act?). And these are the kind of pictures thirty years from now that will have us all dewy eyed and reminiscing, not the blurry ones I shot of Mom holding Molly in the middle of the night.Tuesday, January 15, 2008
Moving Up the Food Chain!
January 12, 2008, a day which will live in infamy. On this memorable date, our little Molly took her first small steps towards a larger world of food consumption. After considerable prompting, Ms. Molly delicately sampled the delicious mixture of breast milk and rice cereal that her parents had lovingly concocted for her. True to her fine breeding, and in perfect accord with what she has learned at her finishing school "Baby Debutantes", Molly swished the mixture around in her mouth, grimaced, and promptly gave herself a rice cereal goatee. Mom and Dad, of course, were awestruck by Molly's performance. They couldn't stop telling her how incredibly smart and talented she was despite the fact that, to their knowledge, there has never been a single human baby who didn't learn how to eat. But none, at least in their experience, had done it with the flair and panache that little Lash demonstrated! Just imagine what she'll do with green beans...
